Site investigations

Carnon Contracting provide a full range of site investigation services for construction and environmental purposes.

The company operates a variety of drilling rigs and specialist plant for use in almost any location, including difficult terrain and confined spaces. We operate larger rotary rigs for open construction sites and large projects, and have a variety of very compact rigs for use in confined locations. Our operatives have a great deal of experience in this type of work.

We can drill cored holes up to 116mm in diameter and up to 800 metres deep, and carry out standard rotary drilling up to 150mm in diameter.

With the company’s roots and experience in mining and geology, we understand the potential impact of mining and have developed a reputation for good core recovery and the quality of information we provide with the minimum of intrusive works.

Projects completed by Carnon Contracting have included:

  • Diamond core drilling along the line of the Penzance Newlyn interceptor tunnel for Trafalgar House Construction
  • Orientated diamond core drilling in the apron of Argal dam in Cornwall to provide geotechnical data for the assessment of the stability of the dam in response to possible seismic events for South West Water Plc
  • Environmental drilling and sampling for Danes and Moor, including SPTs, sampling and the installation of permanent sampling wells
  • Site investigation drilling in respect of possible mining subsidence on properties throughout the Westcountry
